1/12
This 1/96 scale model is based on the Zumwalt class DDG of the US Navy. My son requested this model to build, so I designed it with simplicity in mind. It’s also BIG. So I made the walls 4mm thickness so that if you scale it down (up to 50%) then hull integrity should remain intact. I also initially designed a stand, but it was too big for even my printer, so I’ll leave that to the modeler as well.
I kept the deck and hull as one piece for a majority of the model, as the size should allow for easy access inside for clamps for hull piece connection. I included a rudder hatch aft as well that can be permanently or semi-permanently attached after rudder installation.
I cut all pieces to be under 250mm in the Z direction, however due to this model’s size the beam at the widest point is 284mm.
Overall, this model is 1.927m long, 284 mm wide, and 425mm tall at 1/96 scale.
Edit 1 (1/28/26): I received enough requests for the wider hull pieces (pieces 4-9) not fitting on the standard 250mm^3 plate. So I cut the hull pieces down the keel and included attaching braces like I do for the bulkheads. The zip file is included separately, and the pieces are numbered in the same order as the original file, but split into R and L for Right and Left halves respectively. (Last photo shows this cut.)
