CSS Virginia RC Model 1-72

CSS Virginia RC Model 1-72 3D print model

Description

CSS Virginia Version 2.0! I have redesigned this model from square 1.

This 1/72 scale model is based on the Civil War era ironclad CSS Virginia (formerly USS Merrimac.) It is my interpretation of the ship from John Porter's plans received directly from the US National Archives, as well as sketches/pictures available online, and photos of the Virginia model located in the Hampton Roads Naval Museum. I have designed this model into three primary sections to assist in running gear installation for RC models: the hull, the bottom portion of the casemate, and the upper portion. (See preview photos.) The idea is that the hull can be assembled, running gear installed, and then the bottom casemate will be permanently affixed to the hull, and the upper portion will be removable.

I am also including optional cannon porthole covers for the forward angled cannons if wanted, a stand, and the stocks for the anchors can be left off if desired.

I tried to keep all pieces under 250mm for printing. Some slicing may be required though.

At 1/72 scale this model is about about 1.2m long, 215mm wide, and 273mm tall with 41 files + instructions. (Some files are printed in duplicate.) As always, let me know if you find anything that can be improved and I'll get the updates out.
