Commission Rates & Payout Deductions Are Hurting Designers

Discussion started by Pheonix-design

CGTrader taking 40% from new designers is insanely massive. On top of that, we’re charged again when transferring from Hyperwallet to our bank accounts.

For example, on a model priced at just $8, I only received $1.20 in my bank account after all the cuts. That’s an extremely huge reduction and honestly very discouraging for creators who put time, effort, and creativity into building quality 3D models.

The current structure feels unfair — both designers and buyers are affected. Designers lose a big part of their hard-earned sales, while buyers end up paying higher prices due to the added costs.

I believe commission rates and payout fees should be reconsidered. A more balanced system would help motivate new designers, improve marketplace trust, and ultimately benefit the CGTrader community as a whole.

I don't know if the people in charge at CGT have changed, or they have just decided the makers were getting too big a cut, but they simply do not care. It's about time they realised that they have shot themselves in the foot, but I don't think they will.

If you manage to make contact with anyone there, they will explain to you as if you are an idiot, how this is so much better for you, and how it will improve your sales, and bulk selling won't harm you at all. Yeah right. I like many people lost maybe 9% in royalties. Sales have dropped off significantly, and I do not trust them any more. Over the last couple of years, they have introduced more & more things that are purely designed to make their lives easier, and improve their income, at the expense of the creators. We now have to PAY them to get our earnings out, and on top of that, now get much lower royalties, with almost zero chance of improving that figure because of their exceptionally stupid and unfair tiered system, that is clearly designed to only encourage "makers" and I use the term with caution, that can churn out junk models in bulk. The site is now riddled with shockingly poor AI created slop, models stolen from free online sites, and general garbage. Just like TurboSquid. Thee only reason I can see that they think this is valuable, is because of their plans to sell complete libraries to large companies.
