Model type sales?

Do you really expect someone to tell you what sells best so you can lower his sales with your own products? :) This is a business like any other so you'll have to figure this stuff by yourself. The only rule is that if you offer something special that others don't, then you have some big chance to make some money from it. But in the end it all depends on the customers or potential customers that are or are not interested in your stuff.
If you offer something that many others offer as well, then you have to push the quality higher or the price lower depending on what type of customer you want to attract.

The longer I read these forum responses the more it is obvious that nobody knows what sells. People think they know but they have no clue. It is absolutely random. Some people manage to sell the occasional model and often times it turns out to be a model that sucks the most in their collection or they they thought was worthless. Others sell what they think is the best models in quality once and then fail to sell it ever again. It is random and therefore there are only a handful of people willing to share info on the subject because when they do manage to sell something it is like winning the lottery and as Richard Homola said, they are too worried someone will copy them or make something similar and get a cut of their earnings.

I know there will be a lot of unhappy artists telling me to shut up but the best categories usually tend to be 3D models related to interior design. Those tend to sell better than cars 3D women and a bunch of other models that have been done to death. Again though it all depends on how lucky you are because even when you make great models they don't always get seen by the buyers you want to sell them to. The best way to go about making models is to create them for existing clients. Then you get paid for making them and then get paid again if they sell. There are very few people interested in buying 3D models and the ones that do usually have their favorite clients that they like buying from. That is why getting noticed is very difficult.
