In the old system I had reached the 80% level of royalties. Seeing that 80% dropped to 55% is a psychological hit that destroyed all desire to make new models. And I have no doubt they will continue to keep lowering to 50% and 40% if they want to. This percentage of royalties is unacceptable.
But that doesn't even matter anymore. CGtrader is probably going to disappear in 1 or 2 years, at least in its current form. People will simply stop buying models if they can make them on their own in a few seconds.
The only thing of value that CGtrader can offer is a big catalogue of 3D models to train generative AI. Which is what the have been doing behind our backs in the last 2 years, selling models in bulk to nameless companies.
Probably at some point, they will stop hosting 3d models from designers, and only offer 3d slop generation for a cheap subscription price.
