few views and no sales on cgtrader.

Discussion started by chfonte2

I put a model of mine to sell on cgtrader, but I had very few views of the model. On another sales platform, smaller than cgtrader, I have hundreds of views and I've had dozens of sales. What happens in cgtrader? I thought it was more popular.

While this website has a large selection of 3D print models, it doesn't seem to be "the" place to go for STLs. Possibly because some people don't know how to limit the results of searches to 3D printable models. There have been several artists here who have had customers complain that their models are not printable, when they weren't even designed to be so. The customer did not read the model description or the available formats and just assumed that because this is a 3D site, that means that everything 3D is printable.

Yeggi.com does reference this site when searching for 3d print models though.

While I do have some sales here, the lion's share is from that other site, since I only sell 3D printable models.

I'd advise you to sort ya tags out too. If you search on here for 'Hulk' models you won't appear even close to the first couple of pages! Its also a good idea to link your models to other sites and pages to have them become more visible!

Hello, it turns out I have been following you on the artstation for a long time) You have cool models! I also sell models here, but models for 3D printing have not yet been sold here, although there were sales on more specialized sites for 3D printing, and the return is greater! Your models are much higher level than mine, but that's not the point. Recently, my sales and activity on cgtrader have fallen, and most likely not only me. As for other Hulk models, I think there are really a lot of models, but not all of them are of such quality and not all of them are really properly optimized for printing.

Hi Chagarin, Thank you, it really seems that this platform is not ideal for 3d printing models, it was an attempt I made here. Do you know of any other platforms that are better for selling printable templates? in Cults I already have much more return.

So far, sales of models for3D printing are only on cults.
On the artstation - no sales (but other models were sold)
There is also - flipped Normals, but there are no sales at all
3dexport - 0
cubebrush - 0
Many people say that cults is the best site for 3D printing. So far, I have not found analogues of cults
If you find a decent site - let me know if you don't mind )
Also - if I have useful information, I will let you know.

Hi guys, thanks for the advice on here. I'm also new to selling models, I'm too small scale to justify a monthly sub fee, so trying to find sites that would host my stuff for free, even if they have a high commission.

Because I am new to this, I was also wondering if CG is actually offering competitive rates? After tax, payment processing, and commission I am only getting about 55% profit. It seems really bad?

Hi, what is the monthly fee in question? I know that only the art station has a paid subscription (pro account).
You have a very good type of models). In fact, 55% (tax deducted) is not so bad, the same TurboSquid offers 40% (tax deducted).
At the expense of exhibiting free models - you can set one or two, just for example, but not all. Still, it is a long and painstaking work. There are a lot of people who want to download for free. And mostly they are lovers of freebies, who are not the fact that they buy models in general, but at least 1 model should be free.

Thanks for the info, yeah am planning to release some basic stuff for free, but the primary models will have fees. I thought other sites like cults etc had monthly sub fees.

As far as I know - only Artstation, but this is not a mandatory fee
