Photoshop is most powerfull software for image editing... It is not free. Free analogs are less convenient.

I use GIMP for all of my photo editing duties, primarily to do dust removal(lots of healing and cloning) on scans of film. I use a XP-Pen Star 06 https://www.xp-pen.com/product/49.html wireless drawing tablet , with the most recent version of GIMP 2.10 for this editing.

GIMP is ok, photoshop is much better. Creative Cloud isn't too expensive these days...

Like everyone before me has said - I think Photoshop is the best and most reliable way to go.

GIMP is free but Photoshop is a much better option. Even Photoshop Elements is a good deal.

Photoshop Elements is missing some high end features but for editing contrast/colour and fixing small errors etc. you will have all the tools you need.

GIMP is the best free image editing program. it has most of the functions that photoshop has and in fact some much useful function like depth merge filter using which you can take z-depth pass and get Depth of Field effect easily.

If you have access to photoshop , then go for it, but if you want something free then go for gimp or any other online photo editing software or webpage. :)
