"Smart sellers" ... raising prices "for the valentine's sale"...

Discussion started by wing688

So... once again I have added many models to buy to my wish list thru the months and just like with previous sales right now too many sellers are raising prices "for the sale" ... Some sellers even raised 3 or 4 times the price for their models! How can CGTrader allow this? It could easily be forbidden to the seller during a sale to modify the price, at least it should not be possible for the seller to raise the product price while lowering it would be his/her choice and fine for customers. I get that CGTrader split means more money when sellers raise the price like that but in most civilized countries raising prices during a sale is a crime too. And even sellers with products not in the sale at all, no discount have raised the price 3 or 4 times all of a sudden. Clearly trying to cheat on anyone that didn't follow the product price before and sees it for the first time.

Hello,
I raised my prices recently, but i didn't make it in order to cheat on customers. I did it because other 3d stock forced me (and other sellers) to keep the same price on CGTRADER and on their 3d stock (TS). Probably it is the common issue for other sellers.

As said above, recently sites have been demanding all websites you sell on match on price. There's more to it than that, but that's the main thing. Other times people just don't like models on discounts so they change the prices.

Personally I don't, but no matter what you buy or where, people do it. Even shops do it. Put on a 40% sale but raise prices to make more money but not seem like they are.

Just business I guess, and how its been for as long as I can remember, and how it will be for a very long time still.

I don't see how a shop can force a seller to set the same price. Anyway on my wish list here I put models that are not sold on other shops, I have the links in my bookmark for models I might buy sold on TS only as well usually clearly waiting for sales. And in the last few hours many of the models in my wish list increased in price 3 to 4 times. Yeah it is dirty business indeed to increase the price when there is a sale active as it clearly is cheating on customers actually not discounting a damn thing and even asking for a premium price that wasn't there before the sale. In many countries that is a crime.

Long, long story short. TS are forcing sellers to set prices to be the same across all sites the seller sells on otherwise TS will make the changes themselves to the models on TS. There's a big article on it here on the CGT forums. Its a dirty thing to do for sure, but in the world of business in mainly the US and EU, its not a crime, and widely done by almost any business. From game server sales, to superstores, to these online model sites.

It's hard to believe that any seller would raise its prices x4 times to cover 30% discount. It's more likely relaited to newest policy of the rival marketplace, as you were told already. Anyway, if those seller are really charging that much more when there's discounts, then simply don't buy from them, or you can wait when discounts are over and they will decrease prices to "normal" again and then buy what you need. Many sellers decided to quit turbosquid, when it started to control their prices, it would be devastating if same would happen on CGT.

Yes, the pricing is a little nestabilizirovannoy due to changes in TurboSquid. This had an impact and on CGT. For example, some of my models I lowered prices, on some raised, a many moved to the "free" category. Prices have not yet been adjusted in a stable direction.

But to be honest, discounts on" Valentine's Day " I did not expect. Black Fridays and and other discount days I supported and even the cost of did below, but "day St.Valentin", perhaps, there is no. On this on some of their models we have raised the cost by 20...25% (although the discount on the website much more).

Out of curiosity why do some of you keep different prices on different websites? If its because of royaloties wouldnt you want to keep them the same so one of them your making more than the other, otherwise why even post your models on 2 websites if your customers will always go to the lower one, as long as they know about it, if you set same price on both it wont matter where they buy it from.

Of course we wouldn't want to set same prices on different marketplaces, otherwise there wouldn't be all that fuss about latest turbosquid actions. And no, customers not always goes where price is cheapest. Some might be loyal to one marketplace, some prefers one's service over the other's and some probably don't know or don't want to search for other places. From my point of view, to keep same prices on the marketplaces where royalty rates are so vastly different, would be simply stupid decision.

i disagree, the royalty rate should have nothing to do with how much you charge in one place over the other. Your models should be priced by what the market rate is/what people will pay for it. What your cut is of it should not matter what you set the price to. With different prices your only confusing buyers,I buy models for work occasionally and look thru multiple websites, when i see different prices it makes me wonder why and sometimes i stay away from those, inconsistency. If your saying some people only stick to certain sites, then the all more reason to keep prices the same, the adjusting prices per royalty your basically saying im okay with getting "X" amount, when you can be getting "X+?" . Im not saying you should lower your prices from one to the other websites to keep them the same,they should just be priced competitively in every marketplace, if you get higher royalties even better for you on that higher priced model you set on every website. Everyone will have a different standpoint/opinion on this matter so I definitely understand, was just wondering what peoples concerns are what same prices.

I'm not gonna argue with you. If you're happy to receive half as much revenue on certain marketplace as you would receive on the other one, then go ahead and set your prices equally and be happy about that. For me such tactic is simply not acceptable. If customer wants to shop at marketplace with unreasonably high commissions, he has to be ready to cover up at least some part of my loss. If he's not happy about that, he can search my models on more friendly marketplace or he may buy models from other vendors. I'm perfectly fine with that.

The my attitude towards different sites is completely the same.
And if there are some of the moments I don't like, it's just of my subjective opinion.
This does not affect the price of the models.
There is an optimal price, it is acceptable to me and inexpensive to the buyer.
The optimal price is formed by constituent factors:
- office hours;
- the complexity of the model: + 0...35%;
- originality of the model + 0...20%;
- reserve for development, + 12%
At the same time, additional costs (if I bought originals for textures or rare drawings, drawings,)...) in the price is not included.

And that's it. The price is formed and the Studio should be guaranteed to get it.
And then up turn on the royalty rate on the site.
The price of the model + the percentage that occupies the site
For this reason (site royalty rate) the price of the model on CGT differs from the price on other sites, and for this reason on CGT is lower than that of "TS".

no ones arguing here, im trying to hear other peoples feedback on the issue. And who said anything about making half as much? The prices are set on what the market will pay! Royalties have nothing to do with it.

One sale of $100 priced model, would give me $80 on CGT and $40 on TS. I think, that's what called half as much, isn't?

From my point of view, it is a matter of attracting customers to a fairer market for the designers, and the only way to do that is having lower prices.
