New type of cheating on CGtrader. Be careful

Discussion started by intagli

Hello

faced a new type of cheating on CGtrader

I received a file format conversion request from user khameskhamesi212 for model that is in our directory.

Before making such inquiries, I always check in the sales history whether such a model has been sold or not. And upon checking it turned out that such a user had never bought anything from me. Accordingly, I did not send him the file and wrote in a personal message.

I suspect this model fishing is happening all the time, and not just for me.

Please be careful and always check the sales logs before submitting any files upon request.

I would also like to contact the administration: is it possible to make the "file format conversion request" function available only after purchasing the model?

thank

take care of yourself =)

I was surprised to hear that wasn't already a rule. Hopefully it changes soon. :)

I found it in account settings -> Allow buyers to send me File format conversion requests:
"Requests of models over $10 will be handled by CGTrader 3D design team.
Please keep in mind that most file format conversion requests are made pre-purchase(!).
Add converted files to your model files rather than send them directly to requesters to avoid misunderstandings and loss of revenue(!)."

Hi there,

Thank you for making us aware of the situation described. As autumnborn wrote above, we highly recommend adding converted files to your model files rather than sending them directly to requesters to avoid misunderstandings and loss of revenue. However, we are going to take the action to solve this problem in the future.

Kindly,
CGTrader support

That explains my recent experience with format conversion - few days ago i got request to convert one of my models to 3DS format for usage in Blender. When i replied that Blender is perfectly able to import FBX, or OBJ, both of which are already provided by me with that model, i immediatelly got second request from that user, to convert the model to 3DS for usage in 3ds Max - for a model which already has a native MAX file! That user stopped trolling me, only when i threatened to report him to support. I couldn't understand his behaviour, but now i see this could be lame attempt to phish the model.

Looks like CGT needs a better security system with permanent bans for such users + some restrictions for newly registered accounts.
