Just curious, how would you feel if you were the original creator of this character and you saw someone copy your model and make money from it without even asking you if he could do it?
Mighty Proud! I'd be proud and honored to see that people liked my work enough to work for hours, and perhaps days, to remake, imitate, what I've done :)
PS: I doubt this guy could get in touch with the guy who made the original model..... Besides, it was probably a whole team ;)
Well, you don't understand the difference between fan-art and plagiarism. Doing fan-art is ok as long as it doesn't make money for the non-original author. You can see people doing fan-art all over the web and it's often supported by the original authors and sometimes gets the extra exposure by them but if someone uses it to make money then it's wrong, that's my point. It's not complimenting the author when someone other makes money from HIS creation.
I just make this kind of models affordable to a regular person. It is being used everywhere if you haven't noticed. Just like you create a model of a laptop, I am sure that you did not contact creators of it and asked whether they allow you to publish and make money from it. And of course, I would be proud if this kind of thing happened to me. Original will always be original and nothing can be better than that, so creating these kind of models we sacrifice a chunk of quality, but still make them for those who want to use them for their own purposes and it makes them...probably happier. For example, some time ago I created a short movie congratulating one of my friends using exactly this model, it was her birthday and it really made her happy. After all, is'nt that what this kind of online stores exist?..
My laptop isn't an exact copy of something and as you can see, it doesn't carry any logo so it's kinda different case. Anyway I still say that if you create such stuff then you should put it out for free or give part of the income to the original author because otherwise you just copy his work and get the profit which is wrong. People here just don't recognise where fan-art ends and where parasiting starts.
Listen, he worked hard for hours, and perhaps days on this model... And I don't think such hard work should be given out for free! Besides, as many people have told me before, don't flood the market with free models :P So please, say something nice for a change :)
I'm trying to be nice because when Dreamworks finds out about this, they'll just tell him to delete the model and never sell it again. And please, don't tell me what hard work is, I know exactly what it takes as I've been doing CG for about 15 years and sometimes I work day/night to make the job done. But you'll see for yourself when someone takes your ideas (when you create them) and puts them into his commercial work that will makke him money and he won't even aks you if he can steal it. Hard work shouldn't be given out for free and I never told it. It's just making a digital copy of another digital work and making money from it, can't you see he difference? It's all about respect and every artist should respect other artist's work and shouldn't try to make profit from copying it, simple as that.
Okay, listen, I don't know if you've noticed, but there are thousands of copy written items out there on the market for sale..... Like it or not people may need these for there animations, or still pictures..... And as Professional CG Artist, it's our job to provide them with the models they need....... COPY WRITTEN OR NOT! Besides, you know for a fact that it would be practically impossible to get a hold of the original artist, because you stated that he didn't ask permission in the first place!
PS: If dreamworks sees this, they will roll their eyes about it and move on. There are dozens of other minions running around out there, and if they stopped this one, they'd have already stopped the rest.
Oh, and you're laptop has a windows start screen up (copy written), and a bunch of apps, one of which is vimeo (copy written)
Ok, I'm not gonna argue with someone that can't even say "copyrighted" and doesn't understand that asking money for someone else's IP is wrong (not to mention illegal). And if many people do it that still doesn't make it legal. And if someone "needs" some licensed product for anything, it's not really sour job as an artist to do it for money, that's just stupid idea, sorry. This is my last post here, I won't bother you anymore and you people do what you want. You'll see when u grow up that your opinions were wrong.
And BTW I'm not selling the laptop with the screen texture. It's only on the render and not part of the package so don't try to be smarter.
