Different license here vs. Turbosquid

Discussion started by willbkool

Hi, I was looking at some models here today and noticed that some that I had in my Wishlist had changed to Editorial only license, but yet the same exact model is at TS with the Royalty Free license. These are by the same artists and I was wondering why the difference in licenses between the two sites. While I would prefer to buy the models here and help the artists out a little bit, I'm going to have to buy them at TS because of the license difference.

Hello,

Probably the correct license is the one here. Many models both here and in TS have an incorrect license, but that does not grant any rights. That is, you can not use any brand, model, logo ... without the express authorization of its owner, even if the sale license says otherwise. That's why CGT is doing a good job putting each model with its correct license. Many times people show a deep contempt for the work and property of others, but if companies bother to register brands, it will be something, right? The only one who can give you the authorization is the owner, not the designer of the model, or the sale license. Do not reward the one who does things wrong knowingly, only to sell a little more, because the only thing he does is harm you and you can have problems with the real owner (especially if there is money involved). Keep that in mind when you do your shopping.

One of the models is a WWII Paratrooper from Ozgur Saral, it's on other sites besides TS as a Royalty Free license as well. The only thing that I can think of is the weapon is a Thompson SMG, maybe that's a brand name.

@willbkool, licences on guns and stuff from WWII era, probably had expired long time ago. There's a known bug on cgtrader, where any licence will secretly switch to editorial if seller has edited his model in any way. Also sometimes licence may change to editorial without any apparent reason. Cgtrader is well aware of that, but they aren't able to fix that yet. If you see licence mismatch between cgtrader and other marketplace, you can always try to contact the seller here and see if it's a simple mistake or deliberate action. You can always freely approach seller on cgtrader, unlike on some other marketplaces ;]

Thank you, I will try to contact the artists and make sure that I'm getting the correct license. I would much prefer to buy here and give the artists a bigger piece of the pie.
