Most demanded car model category at the moment?

Discussion started by rakuyo

Hi,

I'm still new to selling 3d models, but currently I'm working on making car 3d models. But it seems like its already full of many different types of cars, so could someone please give me a hint as to what types of cars arent oversupplied? Mini vans, futuristic cars, retro futuristic cars, sport cars...?

Thanks in advance!

Hey guys,so this whole model stealing thing sparked my curiosity and I did a little digging and turns out there are programs through which you can rip models from games easily with textures. A few months back someone texted me on the jobs section asking whether I can program software through which they can download paid models for free from here just like on Sketchfab. To be frank these thieves are really getting on my nerves. I think the best thing we can do is make assets like brushes, materials, decals, and addons, etc. which cant be stolen.....this sux x_x

Damn, this sucks. Is rhere any way for CGTrader to even know if a model is stolen or if its an honestly made model with a low price?

I don't think so, just have to work with what we got.

And the absurdity continues.
Typing "ferrari f8" into search box and guess which model is placed on 1th position.

@PhantomDesign How can such thief repeatedly create account? To be paid you must send scan/photo of your ID/passport. So he is repeatedly using same documents? Or he has multiple fake IDs?
Or he didn't provide ID and he is not being paid.

I guess they use family members ID's or fake ID's, there was one thief that complaint here on the forum (i'll try to find the topic) how he was banned for the 7th time and now he wants his account back because he wants to start selling legit models, he said that he doesn't want to be a thief anymore. Someone commented that he runned out of family members ID's, which created a big laugh here on the forum. That was confirmed later by support.

@zabotlama I just checked it and it's so wrong, the model looks so good, just like the others. It's obvious that people will go for the cheap one, I hope these thieves get banned forever but cgtrader just doesn't seem to care.
@rakuyo as @zabotlama mentioned try modeling old models from the 90s, these cars have a lot of character and story and to be honest, I love cars from the 90s. You could also try JDM's, in my opinion, these sell alot too.

Yes, people will go for the cheap one, but that cheap one can bring a lot of headache, putting stolen model in a game or other product is a serious offense. Modeling cars from the 90s is a good idea, although you can find most of these online, but still there is some space.

Agree with PhantomDesign.
Search for example "porsche taycan". You will get suspicious 13$ model of scanned accuracy on 1th position. Model placed on better position than other correctly priced models.
So if you want to succeed in cars category you must produce extremely high-quality models for banana prices. :-(((

You can also try for example "porsche 911" even with worse (10$) result. So the most famous cars like Porsche, Tesla Cybertruck etc. are without chance. Maybe you can succeed with less famous models (for example historical cars) - but still you must be good modeller.

Porsche Taycan guy that you mentioned, is mentioned here on the forum multiple times in the past, apparently he was banned multiple times, but he continues to come back. Every time when he come back his models are more and more ruined by modification that he had done in order to hide the origin of the models and the fact that those models are stolen.

This is so sad. Regret all the people who have modelled the same car fairly.

At this point, honestly i feel bad for all peoples that are trying to sell cars.

If you are beginner forget cars in general. To be able to sell car models here you have to be on a very very high level because competition is very strong. First you have to beat legit competition (legit artists), after that you have to beat thieves, and trust me, no one can beat laser scanned 3d model stolen from a video game which are selling here for 2$. It's just isn't worth the effort and time to fight against that. The only thing you can do is to model cars that aren't availabe to thieves and because of that aren't available on sale here, which is science for itself.

Thanks for the advice. I know I wont make a fortune out of this, but I still plan on trying, maybe I'll have some success with this. Out of curiosity, what are those thieves? They steal models from games? Also I wonder, since there's a big competition, should I try to be original and make futuristic cars and other standing out cars, maybe with something sprayed on them etc. , or are normal car models of real cars more demanded? Thanks in advance!

Hi there,
I checked trending car models a few days back and it was Mercedes Benz. I would suggest making sports genre from the brand and not SUV or minivans etc.
Hope this helps :)

rakuyo wrote
Hi, Thanks for the suggestion! I'll try to work more on sports cars, but I don't think I'm experienced enough yet, so I think it won't hurt to make 1 or 2 vans first that don't have as many curves. Also I wonder, how exactly do you check which car models (or models in general) are trending at the moment? Thanks again for the reply!

Also, I know this is unrelated, but I don't want to start a specific thread only for that, so I'll ask here - do I need 100% quads for car models? Is it okay if use triangles (and ngons rarely) in tricky areas that require cutting out different forms from the mesh where quad only mesh is very difficult to achieve?
