Making the viewport more realistic

Discussion started by llast-ffirst1234

In DAZ 3D and ZBrush, the character model is very detailed. I can see all of the detail, for example, on my character's collar bone; the lines and shape of the neck. However, in Maya, it's not too realistic. I can see some skin texture, but there's no shadows or any very realistic detail in the structure or shape of the character. The clothes are also less realistic than they are even in Marvelous Designer. Is there a way to make Maya's viewport more realistic like DAZ 3D or ZBrush?

Do you have a high-end GPU? I don't really use Maya, but it's my understanding it has an option called "Viewport 2.0", which is a GPU-hardware accelerated viewport display setting that can use Arnold render's real-time engine. This should display high quality, realtime results with environment fog, soft shadows, motion blur, etc. Did you try enabling the Viewport 2.0 and play around with settings?

You're probably right, Mineral3D. I've tried to help him before but I never know if it worked or not. Sometimes I don't even know if he received my reply... Except for the one time I seemed to offend him with my answer. Oh well, at least we tried.

If you want to make Maya viewport 2.0 more realistic, first you need to add lights to your scene. The second thing you need to know is to turn on the light icons on top of the view port bar. Then from the same bar, you can go to viewport 2.0 settings and turn on ambient occlusion and increase anti-aliasing. That way your viewport rendering enhances to a great extent. Let me know if you need some screen shots.

Light is always essential in any software. - Am curious if there will be a reaction since usually people are writing like against a wall on that person's posts as luxxeon posted above already (unless you "offend" him/her/it).

Well, I'm totally a newcomer in this website, and I'm trying to be helpful to others. It's good to use the experience of some older members like you though. You mean this guys posts here and doesn't show up afterwards?

That person shows up with new questions now and then but doesn't let you know if your answer was helping or not. There had been already some folks trying to help.

I still don't get why you don't want to render in DAZ 3D what it is thought for (great results and shaders already set up for you)....
Otherwise you should look up how to set up shaders in Maya then.
