How important is the number of polygons in sales?

Discussion started by xantier

Hello. What is the importance of the number of polygons in model sales with your experience? I would like to keep the polygon numbers low. However, this sometimes limits me. But sometimes I ask myself; Is this important? For example there are 1m polygon scan materials and I think they are used and sold. What is your opinion as statistics? How important are the numbers in terms of sales with your experience? Thanks.

For offline rendering polygon count doesn't mean much - as long as its not ridiculous like it has 200,000 poly screws/bolts.

For real-time its more important, but again its more specific to the required format. Using LODing for low poly is a good idea for your customers so they can choose which Level Of Detail they require. If you have a (0) 10,000 poly (1) 25,000 poly and (2) 100,000 poly version of the same model then the customer has a better choice for their workflow.

I've looked at some of your models, it seems to me that you have no problems with polygons count, however i noticed that you should work more on your topology - it doesn't look very good, i would call that sloppy modelling. Your texturing skills are good though!

I myself is looking for high polygoncount as i want to 3d print models. lowpoly is a no go for me then.
Especially if it is a organic form like people and animals.
