Found a person that is reselling other people's models as his own.

the models are being downloaded by this person from several free sources. In my case, he took an old version of my character "Syd", that I had shared for free through the Ble****Kit addon.
I have been sharing free models for years, and I am more than happy for people to use them and make money. But selling them as their own, that's going too far.
I reported him and it looks that my model has already been removed.
He has a lot of models (80 high poly and 55 low poly) and even several reviews.

I suggest others have a look too, especially if you happen to share models on other platforms as free downloads.
To be clear, I am not talking about models in the public domain. I am talking about Creative Commons Attribution and similar licences. While those models are free to use, in some cases even commercially, you can't just slap them on CGTrader and resell them as your own creation.

I have reported a few (the ones I could find the source for, using a reverse image search plugin). But it takes ages to image search 100+ models and right now I am too sick to deal with this. Plus it's really not my job. He has been flagged by me and by at least one other author, so multiple times from multiple people. GCTrader should be the one dealing with him.
Anyhow, before I wrap this up, here is what I have found out. It's quite interesting.
Some of the original models are free from Blen***kit (including mine), and some from Sk****fab. Every single model he sells is likely to be a free asset that he found on similar platforms.
I found out purely by chance, because when you are on a model's webpage CGTrader shows you a list of models that are "visually similar", and "his" (my) model was on the list . He probably didn't realize that I had that on both BKit and here, and that's the only reason I caught him.
He is not sourcing directly from CGTrader.. probably cause he would have to pay :)
So again, to those who share any of their models with a free license on other platforms, I suggest you have a look at his collection.
Oh and he keeps on adding new stuff.
There are TONS of these accounts on CGT.
From more subtle modding of Assetto Corsa and other gaming models to lazy stealing of other people's models and not even caring about removing the original author's logo etc.
Selling free models has been a thing for years, unfortunately.
The main issue is that only the rightful owner can report this, and then has to provide proof of ownership, so as a third party seeing this happening, you'd either have to spend time contacting the original owners, or start commenting on the thief's product page, or ignore it all together.
It's a fulltime job reporting these idiots.
Well that's a loada bull m8.....I report stolen s**t all the time...ya can't sell stuff for profit that you haven't created!

We have received a stolen model report with enough proof that you were selling a model that you did not create yourself or you were selling a model that contains the material that you did not create yourself. In this scenario, we will issue you with a warning and ask you to remove any infringing models you have in your profile. If models will not be removed and we will receive another stolen model report, we will suspend the account.
lassebauer you're wrong. Thieves are banned regularly and model owners participation in this process is not necessary. About stolen content from Blenderkit, Sketchfab and other places CGT Support also has known for a long time and there is no need to comment anything on thieves pages. Thanks.

If 3rd party can report theft, that's good news. It used to be only the owner who could do this. I've reported several in the past and adviced the original creators, but the platforms always told me that they had to await an official complaint from the copyright holder.
@lassebauer Peace man and sorry I wasn't having a go at u......it just really really gets my goat when I see these thieves continually selling stolen models and your post sounds a bit like you we're siding with them but hey and I think your referring more to IP I'm guessing!
Next big problem here, I'm just beginning to noticed, is the amount of AI generated crap is being uploaded. That's where they'll head next, I guessing!
@jimplatt No worries. I understand the frustration. I am in no way on the side of these morons, which is why it's frustrating to see them pop up everywhere. And yes; AI slop is the next thing, and CGT is already being buried in AI renders and "models" that turn out to be some horrendous blob according to buyer reviews.
If CGT doesn't crack down on this hard and swiftly, this site will drown in AI garbage.
