everything remains the same

Discussion started by Tecna

It has been 5 months since my last messages denouncing blatant violations of copyright and everything is the same, or worse. I was not going to see the new models for a long time, but a minute has been enough for me. No action has been taken to avoid new cases and also the cheats that were expelled are returning, with the same stolen models. I find it shameful and irresponsible, and more so now that the law has changed.

I no longer feel any respect for this community. Instead of trying to fix serious problems, they have changed the interface.

What do you propose CGtrader can do to minimize fraud users?

Keep in mind artists are protected by international copyright law and can report if someone is infringing upon there rights, they can send DMCA take down notice in first place or drag someone to court and recover damages. Legally no one ells can do this on behalf of the copyright holder unless legal rights of the IP’s are transferred (copyrights transferred) to that person.

About 6 months ago I did an in-depth analysis of this problem, including legislation. I made reasoned and reasonable proposals to detect and minimize it, some very simple to implement. They were identified dozens of cheats and deleted thousands of models, but many of them have returned, even with the same user names, (which in its day CGT said they could not be reused), with the same models and the same images of presentation. In some of the cases there were formal complaints from the owners of the models, which does not seem to be any good either, since those same stolen models are again here for sale. No action has been taken to improve this, not even now that legal responsibility has been extended. In short, everything remains the same.

Hi Tecna. Well you can always give support. Pirates cant give support, because they cant model themselves what you did. Clients usually appreciate more the support you give and in reality pay for that more than for the prices of models, and that you are always available to help. just dont worry too much about pirates or people stealing models, if you are a professional and make a name, people will know you and will refuse to download a pirated model they can't use on a commercial project. At first I was very concerced about this, but now I concentrate on being a better artist and giving support. If there is a way to stop people doing this, that would be nice and all, but think that is very difficult to track this people as they resign with different mails, etc... Cheers (im new here).

The pirate sites somewhere on outer corners of the dark web are indeed less of a problem. But I understand its different when people sells copy's here, the clients don't know its a copy and assume they just purchased a legit license for use commercially. For the real owner its difficult because when he send DMCA notice to that client he can prove having a license, now real owner has to prove its a counterfeit license, etc. The only solution I can think of is that real owners send DMCA notice directly to CGtrader. On part of CGtrader it maybe possible to have some AI algorithm regularly scan the total database and look for matching data signatures on new accounts, then have this system automatically block the new account when matching data is found and send warning to the user its illegal to upload copyrighted models. 3D files have a data signature (like a fingerprint) consisting of vertex indexes (lists of unique numbers) and pixels, etc., its perfectly possible to setup a system to detect matching data.
