Best 3D software for designing toys and machines?

I have a not-for-profit, free open source project which happens to contain a candy machine. More specifically it is the model of the Stoner Theater Candy Machine that was located in the 2nd. Floor Lunch Room of the Texas School Book Depository in Dealey Plaza, on November 22nd, 1963.

Blender is a good option for beginners, it's free to use, so you don't need to invest money in it

Virtually any major modeling program serves your purpose, the question is how much time do you need to master one of these programs, at least to the point you need?
       If you are accustomed to draw by hand it will take you much less time, but still, it will take time.
