Best 3D software for designing toys and machines?

Discussion started by tiger-kai

Hello! Not sure if this is the right place to post this. I currently design toys and gumball/candy dispensers. At the moment, I do this by designing what I need in photoshop if its a character type toy or a combination of sketch and photoshop if its a dispenser or machine.

I've been looking at ZBrush. Does anyone think this would be suitable for this type of work? I think its fine for the characters but would it be ok for designing machine type toys. Using various shapes with exact dimensions that then could be copied for the factories? Can you make an object appear to be transparent plastic for instance?

Thanks so much for any help!

Virtually any major modeling program serves your purpose, the question is how much time do you need to master one of these programs, at least to the point you need?
If you are accustomed to draw by hand it will take you much less time, but still, it will take time.

Blender is a good option for beginners, it's free to use, so you don't need to invest money in it

I have a not-for-profit, free open source project which happens to contain a candy machine. More specifically it is the model of the Stoner Theater Candy Machine that was located in the 2nd. Floor Lunch Room of the Texas School Book Depository in Dealey Plaza, on November 22nd, 1963.

Feel free to grab anything you like.

BTW: We are looking for motivated, talented volunteers.
