DESCRIPTION

This model is designed after the small rowboat style Grand Banks Dory. It is a bit of a departure from my usual RC designs, and was requested by my friend Bill, a native of the New England area of the US. He said that the Dory history was a big part of his childhood growing up, and had this to say about it:

“I can tell you a lot of maritime folks from New England and Canada relate directly with these little boats from the days of fishing off the Grand Banks (off of the East Canadian coastline, almost halfway to England.)  Going back to the 1880s -1930s, these boats about 18 feet in length were used for cod fishing.  Two men, or one man solo, would row out from the mother ship (a fishing schooner) roughly around 100 feet.  There they would handline fish and or use a trout line.  They would fill the dory with fish, hopefully,  and come back to off their load their catch to the mother ship.  It was a tough life...”

I have included the plank line details for this traditional wooden boat, and the hull can be printed in a single piece at the designed scale. I used the transom as the lay-flat face, and no supports were needed. (With my printer and slicer anyway.)

Dimensions - L: 217mm, W: 57mm, H: 32mm
