Question about the tag system

Does the tag system know about plurals?
For example when I enter neuron as a tag
and the user enter neurons, will I have a hit?
So currently I enter the plural for every
word used, but with the reduction of tags (now max20) I kind of fall short in
this way (+/- 10 effective tags in general).
