What happened to the CGtrader search engine ?

Discussion started by rft2020

I love Cgtrader, and I was starting to sell 3D models from December 2021 on here, but what happened to the site and to the search engine? Because of the little experience I have with this site, I don’t know why Cgtrader is getting worse and worse because of the bad models, which have low scores and have better positions on the page. Nobody understands how the search engine works or how to make your model appear on the top pages, Cgtrader needs to update the search engine.

Totally agree.
I was quite surpised at the low standard, and actually ugly models of human brains on here, so I decided to create and upload an accurate, and in my opion, beautiful model of a 3D Brain.
A few days later I tested the search engine, to see where my brain would appear. By the time I got to page 8 of the search results, I gave up looking.
Even models that just rhyme with brain, like trains, where appearing first before my model.
New models of high standard and quality should be given a chance to perform well, and not lost behind a sea sub-par models.

For some reason it´s also the same models that are featured whenever there is a sale. Not sure it´s a search engine related issue, but it would be nice being exposed to other models than the same orange astronaut.

Also, the same models are in Trending models list for already 700-800 years... https://i.ibb.co/4W3t25B/trend.png

It's sad really but this site is dead. After what they did with AI and setting it to default I deleted all my models. Others have done the same. I recommend everyone to read their agreements carefully. Keeping your models here could mean they own them and would do with them as they please. Read in between the lines.

For example, if you have a free model posted here, they will automatically feed it to AI and you have no say about it. Only solution is to delete it. How do you know they are not already using your 3D models for their AI website? Another big 3D model website has been found to use their artists' 3D models to train their AI without the artist permission.

This is particularly sad because the more options we have to upload our models and sell them the better. I started selling 3D content 20 years ago. Surprisingly there were a lot more options back then. Uploading and posting models was a lot easier and so was receiving payments. It only became more and more complicated and cumbersome as time went by.

Smaller websites cannot pop up due to payments difficulties and economy of scale which makes it hard to compete with the bigger websites. The current state of the 3D model market is one of complete monopoly. The few 3D model websites are currently owned by bigger corporations or funded by mega investment funds.

I completely agree! I don’t like this either and have repeatedly written to technical support and described my indignation to them, tried to explain that these changes only harm, they answered me, but from the answers I understood that they did not understand me
