Preview image compression

Discussion started by LemonadeCG

Normally i'm not too picky about small amount of compression that is performed on uploaded preview images, but recently i updated one of my models and noticed that some of its preview images were almost completely destroyed by site's compression alghorithm. I understand that cgt needs to save space and traffic, but this is a bit too much. Is there something that can be done to address this issue? I usually upload preview images in png format, HD+ resolution. Should i try another format? Upload higher rez?

Hello,
I don't think your problem is with the resolution of your pictures. I'm using the same resolution (so 1920x1080) and it works fine. There is always a certain compression, especially after a short time after the upload. The images have to be processed first. Just try dragging and dropping the images into the upload files area, then you should be able to find them under Preview Images.
I hope this helps :)

The problem is in compression, not in resolution, of course. Most of the time compression is barely noticeable, but in some edge cases it falls appart completely, did you click on the link in my first post to see for yourself?

I agree with LemonadeCG 100%.

Some of my own cover image thumbnails look like a shreddered 8 x 8 px GIF image.

I tried already with "pre-compression" but it did not help.
I tried already with different exifs of JPG but that did not worked out too.
I tried already with different types of PNG but that did not worked out too.

On the other hand, cover image thumbnails by other artists, with rudimentary exports settings, look just fine.

Till now I´ve never understood what´s cracking, issue remains till today.

By the way, the resolution does not matter at all here, as far as it is higher than the cover image thumbnail physical resolution.

I have a BAD BAD suspect what can be the reason for this diversity, but don´t leave it here for now.
