CGT specific cover image template (for beginners)

Discussion started by RealtimeModels

there is a specific issue with cover thumbnails on CGT, they are cutted on the lower edge hence displayed xx pixels down. Therefore a bit tricky to get something perfectly in full frame for the cover only. A template for some beginners by CGT would be helpful. I have figured it out but first after a year.

Well It is good suggestion but I have never been worried about that, but yes very few of my assets got cropped because of thumbnails,
All of my renders with Full HD (1920 X 1080). All are looking good in Thumbnail except very few.

That´s because you are not a beginner and know how to frame. I suggested it for CGT beginners only, it just would be a nice move from CGT, for me personally it is useless in meanwhile, my urgent need for that was some time ago and I helped me on my own. If you worked already as t-shirt artist you probably know the marketplaces there supply the artistst with tons of templates and widgets, don´t know where the problem is for CGT to offer a quick layout pdf with the right aspect ratio, dimensions, safe zone and the cropped zone. However, I know the "A and B bugs first" statement, that can be used practically always and ever within the development.

There's no perfect format for thumbnail images, because cgtrader uses different aspect ratio for thumbnails in different places. I found that for me 4:3 works best for thumbnails and 16:9 for the rest of preview images. At the moment i'm rendering title images at 1600 x 1200 and regular images at 1920 x 1080 Doing that way almost no cropping is happening.

"because cgtrader uses different aspect ratio for thumbnails in different places." How´s that? I didn´t noticed that, have tested it on 2 laptops and 2 workstations with different resolutions. However, a cropped asset in thumbail doesn´t look very inviting. If you have a city, or a scene to sell, then of course it is even better to crop it, showing just a frame of it with a zoom camera. But it does not make any sense for me to crop a "chair" model i.e. that you want to sell, and that´s not most professional too btw.

Also, btw. there problem occurs mostly when combining some seperated renderings for a collection. I have created a working template for me, but noticed that only the botto part is cropped, resulting that i.e. a 4 x 3 liners with items is cropped in the lowest line. So I move all items higher in order to have all items displayed "uncutted". I don´t use these "CGT´s AI generated" thumbnails for collections.

I've checked thumbnails aspect ratio and it looks they have fixed it - now it's about the same everywhere. Few years ago it was something like 1.33 in one place, 1.5 in some other place. Not sure about collections though, i tend to use my own generated images for them and discard auto generated ones, but they have tendency to come back after while.
