About the new portfolio page

Discussion started by iterateCGI

I love the new look of the personal page, it also starts to provide some customization, still missing some things but we are getting there.

Nice how the top bar shows the main category’s, models, reviews, image gallery and tutorials.
Then the 3 main sections High-poly, Low-Poly and 3D Print, each having its own category buttons, its all perfect except for those category buttons, they are currently driven on keywords witch is probably great for most but in my case it generates to many and not perfectly fitting category's, it would be nice those would be user customizable, preferably an option for creating own tabs would reside in the model page and edits there reflect on the personal page as well. We would have a main tab titled “show all models” just like it is now but in addition have our own tabs next to it for better organizing the portfolio and model page at same time.

Ps: the left right arrows/swiping on those main slides is supper great but for some reason it shows only 21 models when “view all” informs me about 32 in there.

The icon indicating the percentage of discounts on the model does not appear immediately. Google Chrome browser.
The discount percentage icon appears only if I switch to another tab in the browser, and then return to my page in CGTRADER again.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback, we will take it into consideration when we launch the next version of the page.

Regarding the issues you have pointed out:
- Location indication has been removed already.
- 3D Model carousels show a limited number of models, not depending on the total number of models in a category, to load the page as quickly as possible.
- Free 3D Models are not shown in the public profile page, yet users can find them by using the View all functionality.

We will investigate discounts indication issues further.

Best,
Ugne

Thanks for responding Ugne, looking forward to next version.

I would like to use this opportunity to highlight jet a different aspect CGtrader can improve upon.

I’m mainly a content creator/seller but I’m also a sporadic content customer buying 3D models/projects, shaders, textures, brushes and highly specialized tutorials. On average I spend about 150 dollars annually on this (and climbing) but to my regret so far this was not on CGtrader and I want to reveal why.

The thing is I’m probably not the typical customer but more like a sort of impulsive buy when it comes in view and fits some ideas type (also very picky). I generally do not like spending long time searching after content and try keyword combinations, etc. but do like surprises and wonder around on pinterest and look at trending projects on established portfolio websites (from time to time). I follow a group of artists on those that create/deliver great products and I get updates when they bring new things to the table because of the built in advanced system for followers and mail notification.

I did most of the purchases directly in response to these mail updates and discovered afterwards some of those artist also provided the content on CGtrader but they just got to me first via the other platforms because of this mail notification systems (basically most of my purchases are due to mail notifications).

The thing is, I'm also active in the smaller niches and try give shape to new specialized category's, some of my productions are purely visual and abstract shapes that are meant to trigger imagination and get a project going around them, they are geared to get part of the model library from visual artists, collage artists, motion graphics designers and 3D concept designers. Most of the time these types of content do not fit a particular category and are very much dependent on discovery by artist that scout out for these specialized tings (just like I do basically), so when you finally find one of these artists you do want to follow them and keep updated if they bring something new.

Also consider more and more specialized artistic content will enter the field now that the main category's are basically overcrowded, so a system that makes it possible to follow up on favorite artists will get more important in long run.

How is decided wether certain model is low-poly or not? I see many models that i haven't marked as low-poly, nor does they're approved by CGT as such, yet they end up in my low-poly section.

Yes. The idea with a cover for our page is good. But the presentation of models is not a good idea. Well, the bug with the appearance of the discount icon also remains. On the old page, the buyer saw more target models. It seems to me that even sales have become lower. ( Well.. We are waiting for updates.

I have 13 models but only 9 are displayed. How will the buyer see the other models?

Right below those main carrousels you should have a button “show all...3D models”, that's how I get it on my page and others also have it but its no where to find on yours, maybe a bug you should report to staff?

So, If I have understood correctly, my free models page still exists somewhere, But there´s no flag nor link to it , is this a bug?
I´ve complained in another thread about the new square format of the gallery display window wich cut any non-square image, destroying the image composition. This is really a problem.

There's no accessible link to one's free models anymore. You have to type link directly into adress bar https://www.cgtrader.com/free-3d-models?author=[type-author's-name-here], or press "see all 3d models" in artist's home page and choose "free" filter.

Hi, Lemonade, many thanks, I´ve found them, feel a bit stupid

Uh, what? You shouldn't feel stupid. Free content is so hidden, that the only ones who should feel stupid, are the persons who created such layout.

Well, if you have found it, I should, even if I agree that I can´t understand the point in hiding these models

Hi mates, Free models are not really hidden but more like less put forward. And when you are on a free model’s page there are many non-free models displayed around on the same theme. It is a business strategy to sell products and CGTrader is a Marketplace not a freeshare website, so... All artists who want sell more models here have to understand how CGTrader is working (what is the marketing strategy) and use it to his advantage to increase revenues.
