Chargeback on Digital Product – Seller Loses, Buyer Keeps Files

Discussion started by ArtTogrul

Hello everyone,

I want to share a recent experience to warn other sellers about a serious issue with chargebacks on digital products.

One of my wheel models was purchased normally. The buyer completed the payment and downloaded all files successfully.
Later, the transaction was refunded due to unauthorized card usage / chargeback.

As a result:

1. The buyer downloaded and likely still keeps the digital files
2. The payment was fully refunded
3. CGTrader received its service fee
4. I, as the seller, lost the entire income despite delivering the product

Since this is a digital product, there is no way to revoke access or retrieve the files once downloaded. This creates a situation where:

1.Buyer loses nothing
2.Platform earns its commission
3.Seller bears 100% of the loss for something outside their control

I understand that chargebacks are bank decisions, but this system leaves digital content sellers completely unprotected and makes abuse very easy.

I’m posting this so other sellers are aware of the risk and to ask:

1.Has anyone experienced a similar situation?
2.Are there any protections or preventive measures for sellers of digital goods?

Thanks for reading. I hope this leads to a constructive discussion and better protection for creators.
