What's going on with Freelance 3D Projects

Discussion started by HS-Archz

Hi everyone,

I've noticed a significant decline in client activity on CGTrader as a freelance platform. Around 2–3 years ago, sales were strong, and the platform was quite active. However, things have changed. Sales have dropped noticeably, and client engagement seems to be much lower now.

In particular, the Freelance tab used to have new project requests posted every hour. These days, it's down to just a few, sometimes only 2–3 project posts per day. It feels like the variety and volume of freelance opportunities have decreased significantly.

I’d love to hear about your experience how has it been going for you lately?

1 year ago, they sent message to everyone.

" In our commitment to supporting enhancements and ensuring the sustainability of this service, we are increasing the commission CGTrader receives from 5% to 15% for new jobs posted starting from May 20th (upon the successful completion of these new projects).

As we want to ensure that this ecosystem is sustainable in the long term, we are adjusting the commission structure to continue providing and improving this service as well as investing in platform improvements.

Investing in the Future: The increase from 5% to 15% is aimed at further developing CGTrader platform and enhancing the quality of its services, ensuring long-term benefits for the designer community.
Possible Increase in Job Requests: To generate more opportunities, we will run additional promotional campaigns targeting CGTrader buyers.
Backend Improvements: Our investment in technology aims to ensure smoother processing and enhanced functionality.

We believe these changes are crucial for the continued growth and enhancement of the Freelance 3D Projects service.
Your hard work and creativity are vital to CGTrader's success, and we are dedicated to reinvesting in the platform to provide you with the best possible working environment.
We want to assure you that this decision was made with careful consideration of its impact on our community and the long-term benefits it will bring."

After 1 year, despite their commitment, the things went opposite way. The number of projects continue to decline. Many people stopped using this platform for freelance works, because it takes more than UpWork, Fiverr etc. The best advantage of this platform compared to other freelance platforms was it's high revenue percent. Now they earn less from 15% commission than they were earning from 5% commission.

Absolutely true. Why does it seem like their promotions have gotten so much worse even after their commitment to deliver? There used to be plenty of new projects every day, it's just sad to see it fall apart like this. Even after increasing the commission percentage, the number of 3D artists doesn’t seem to have decreased, there are always many applicants for projects. Back then, there used to be a maximum of 20 to 25, at most.

Yes There has been a significant drop in visibility and sales, even though the model quality remains high. I believe this is mainly due to the intense competition in the 3D design market, which has become increasingly saturated with models of all kinds
