Hi there , we were also approached by CG trader with the same e-mail. Our problem got solved pretty quickly in a private chat between us and CG tr team. The only information that we had to provide was our tax number and I don't think that this is out of the ordinary either since there are companies that display their tax numbers on their website as a proof that they're legit . If you're a registered company that shouldn't be any problem for you.

I think every artist took such an e mail. I get too. I think EU countries are making some regulations over taxes and such information required.

We understand your concern, but it is normal process. I can personally justify and approve that this email from Mantas Bliudzius does not have any purpose of credit fraud. He's a part of our team. This is a normal process and there is no need to worry.

Cyber fraud is happening all the time and when I saw this email I thought it was a sloppy and insecure way of sending personal data and I will not be sending a copy of my identity documents this way. It is not surprising that people are checking the authenticity of this email as it is normally not a recommended way to transmit sensitive data. I have no objection of updating my information via a secure method and unless this happens, for me it is not worth the hassle and worry that my information could be compromised. I will await further development on this.

I am glad that the agreement form has been set up for data entry but is all this information and documentation really necessary? As an individual I am selling an odd 3d model now and again, not trying to get through security at the White house or the Pentagon. I think this is overkill for selling a 3d model. I hope CGTrader is only asking for the legal minimum it is required to.
Here in the UK it is this type thing among many others that has forced the government into having a referendum to exit the EU.

This requirement forced us to withdraw our models. To be clear, we are not trying to avoid taxes payment. Just do not have enough confidence to distribute private documents over the internet. Simply, it has to be another model to follow tax laws and protect one`s privacy. As Darnell VFX said that makes him paranoid I say we are not paranoid but not willing to share our private documents, for it is a really serious matter.
I contacted CGTrader`s support via chat and asked them why there was no preliminary or official notification and got an answer: " For it is a very delicate matter we did not want to blow it out of proportion."

Yes it is a very delicate matter and for that it should have been treated so. Official notification on CGtrader`s page, why are such steps necessary, links to (EU) law where it says that those copies are needed, etc, etc. For us it came out so unprofessional that it looks rather fraudulent. We even have received a query from one of our colleague artist on CG trader asking us whether we have received such mail or request. It shows ultimate lack of professionalism.
Since we are new at CGtrader and not a serious vendor we just wanted to bring out our opinion on this matter.

If only the tax number is required CGTrader should state this and if this is so why on the agreement page are they asking "Please attach a copy of your ID, passport or social security in order to receive payments "
The agreement page should be amended to request the tax number and only necessary details with out the need for all the additional personal data.
Under EU law, personal data can only be gathered legally under strict conditions and I think CGTrader while trying to implement EU rules could actually be breaking the law.

Regarding personal data I do agree with you that it is very sensitive topic.As a studio we disclosed only the tax number with the platform and legally we are not obligated to disclose personal data of the owners of the company. However a lot of other sites has that practice requiring personal data. Perhaps the ID data is required only from the designers that are not registered with the tax office of the country they are located in, neither as a company, nor as a freelancer. My point is that the designers should be registered with particular tax office if not as companies then as freelancers,which means that they should have tax numbers. That's the ideal situation. However if you have a designers who make a lot of sales and are registered nowhere that means that they most probably won't pay any taxes to any government which is tax fraud. If the platform supports such users most probably CG trader could face some very serious problems. So may be I'm wrong but I suspect that the ID requirements are applicable to the users that are registered nowhere. If you have a tax number from your government then there is nothing to worry about just continue creating models.:)

The concern is that CGTrader is requesting blanket information of personal data and does not even mention that your tax number will suffice to give those with concerns the option.
If this is the case then the agreement form should be amended.
Until this matter is clarified I will not be completing the agreement form and sending blanket amounts of personal data.
I like many others who have stated their concerns take my personal data security and privacy very seriously.
