I'm not sure what SMN means? Mostly I agree. I think starting out in a direction like making a game or a film is way too advanced for someone just starting out, but certainly, a good endeavor once you are an intermediate user.
I think beginners need to start out with the most simple tutorials. That's why BlenderGuru's Doughnut tut is one of the most popular tutorials ever. Also his tea cup tutorial from many years ago. Although I think there's a much better way to learn to model a tea cup, it's a good starter video because it incorporates a variety of techniques.
