Absolutely horrible sales lately

Discussion started by Digitize3D

Lately I have a significant decrease in my sales. I keep adding new models regularly, but for example this month was lower for me than August last year even though I almost doubled my 3D models during this time. I am showing you the chart of my sales, the last two months significantly lower.

I wonder what the reason is.

A lot is developing here, interface constantly... :|, maybe the category I have my models in which is 3D printing is less important now.

What it your experience with sales now?

My sales are not huge, but then i'm not targeting many areas. Usually when I get a sale 2 or 3 more follow very quickly after that from different buyers. I dont add too many new models, i'm probably guilty of over analysing my work. I've had about 10 models that are finished & I need to release for nearly 8 months now!

@LemonadeCG God, that looks just horrible and doesn't make any sense. Did you ever think what the reason might be? Maybe something to do with positioning of your models by CGTrader each of those months? Do you add new models regularly?

Who knows, there might be many reasons for such fluctuations. Model positioning is extremely important, but i doubt that cgtrader would shuffle models randomly so often. I think that selling goods, is quite unpredictable business in its nature. My graph at turbosquid looks quite similar, except it never had that stable growth period like it's seen in CGT graph. I add new models from time to time, but it doesn't look that it would influence revenue graph much, if at all.

There is no guarantee that you can sell your ideas, no matter how good or successful they may be, consider the production of a film, hire the best in their field, spend a fortune on promotion, work hard, and nothing will guarantee that it will be a success.
The history of cinema is full of films that lost money after having done everything necessary, that's why the studios stick to anything that worked until they stopped doing it.
What requires a sense of smell in order to change tactics and flexibility to adapt to the new demands of the public, the best ones, make the public demand precisely their product, but even this ends up changing at some point.
Superproductions are very well punctually, but a study that invests in an overproduction and fails, is lost without a B series that supports it.
My two cents.

My sales fluctuates alot. Poor months are followed by great months and then plummets again. For example, last March has lowest revenue in a 24 month period, but April was a record breaking month. May was good too, but i'm sure that sales will eventually drop at some point (i just hope that not horribly low). Couple years ago, it was different situation - sales were stable and constantly rising, then all of a sudden rollercoster had started and now i'm trying to enjoy when i'm on a peak and not to get too upset when i hit the valley :] I'm sure you will see increase in sales soon, maybe this month already.

My sale fluctuates too. That is very strange. I did have record March actually, but April and May, both about 50% of March income

@PrintedReality, 50% is nothing unusual. Here's how looks my graph: https://ibb.co/HHfGnGX

11 sales here, 16 on turbosquid and 3 on Scetchfab. This month I think is quite profitable. Much depends on the categories that you master, you do not need to work in one category but also do not need to be sprayed.

Sold 28 models this month, did 40 on black Friday but total revenue is almost same as on last black Friday. My average sales is around 20 models a month and its going up.

3D print models is not my main category so have no clue if its general downward trend for 3D print.
Site updates do not seem to affect my sales at all.
