3D Squirrel

Discussion started by SimonTGriffiths

Hi guys, I've been around quite a while in this world and I have models on so many sites that I've forgotten them all lol. One I have never used is 3D Squirrel. Anyone have anything to say about the place?

If I'm not mistaken, they sell only what they create. It's not like CGtrader or similar sites where you can upload models (correct me if I'm wrong)..
Same as you, I also have models on several sites, but CGtrader is best one for me. Royalty rate in start as first time seller is higher then on other sites when you reach top-level seller. And also, I like how easy it is to publish model here compared to some other sitse.. everything is drag&drop... Simple

Never heard of this one.
For me, the time you will spend uploading models to these obscure sites is barely worth it + you have no idea what kind of people stay behind them and what kind of security (if any) they have.

Thanks, guys, just thought I would mention them as they appear in the top 10 3D sales sites right now. Not bothered going into it any more than that.

Usually, those top 10 (or whatever number) sites lists are just made to attract traffic and the information there is rarely relevant or accurate.
You can look at them as just one guy opinion.
+ They are often based on just google searches and not actual experience.
I think only two sites make 95% of all 3D models sales online and we all know them.

I completely agree with you about those top 10 lists, but i think that your claim about 95% sales made by two major player, is gross overstatement. Even if we exclude game engine specific marketplaces and the ones that specialises on 3D print models, there still is sketchfab who rapidly becoming one of the top dogs in the game.

I am a bit skeptical that sketchfab can reach CGT or TS level of sales, but I didn't tried them so I can't share my experience. Those that I tried before were barely making a sale per year. There were two good ones, but they were both eliminated by TS. I may try sketchfab, but their major selling point is also a security weakness, so I don't know...
