The USS Long Beach (CGN-9) was a cruiser which had been built by the US Navy in the late 1950s/early 1960s.

She was one of the first few ships to be powered by a nuclear reactor and served as a testbed for missiles, nuclear energy and other new technology, together with other ships of other classes. She was also the last cruiser to be built by the US.Long Beach was laid down in 1957 with her launch happening in 1959. Having seen several missions in Vietnam and after, she was sent into the Pacific where she underwent several cruises to other nations, accompanying USS Enterprise (CVN-65) for a bit of time. When the third refuelling of the reactor went near, several plans were proposed to keep her in active service, including the refit as an AEGIS Cruiser and a small aircraft carrier. All were deemed to expensive and Long Beach was decommissioned, defuelled and taken out of service in 1995.

Everything but the hullsegments where the reactor is located were removed and scrapped, the hulk was morred in Puget Sound Naval Yard. There it remains until today, with no change seen in the near future, clearly visible for the public.

For self calculation: The Long Beach was roughly 220m or 721ft long..

The model is intended to be used with little supports as possible, yet some are recommended around the main island and the large antennas on top of it. I recommend using a resin printer for this. Up and Downsclaling might be possible, yet I dont know to what extend.
