ROKS Soyang - Model for small scale printing

ROKS Soyang - Model for small scale printing 3D print model

Description

The ROKS Soyang is a fast combat support ship, having been built by South Korea and is currently serving in their naval forces. She is the only ship of the class and is currently the largest replenishment vessel of the navy. As a replenishment ship, her task is to support larger units and service smaller ships near the front line. To achieve a high amount of flexibility, the ship can reach up to 24 knots with a hybrid propulsion system. Additionally, speedboats can be deployed to reach hard to access locations. The weaponry is, as a support ship, weak. One single MK15 Phalanx CIWS is the only weapon onboard, hence the ship is heavily reliant on either its speed, concealment or the support of other units.

Soyang was laid down in 2015 and launched one year later. Hyundai Heavy Industries then delivered the ship in 2018, since then she is in constant commission. Having built to replace the slowly aging Cheonji-class of the same purpose, her missions have been sparse due to the Covid pandemic. Only a few refuelling and replenishment missions were done, no major incident is yet associated to her name. Currently, no class is planned to succeed her.

Note: This model is recommended to be used in the 1/2000 scale. The models itself isnt scaled, the scale table is down below.

1/4000: 4,48cm or 1.766in

1/3000: 6,33cm or 2.49in

1/2000: 9,5cm or 3.74in

1/1000: 19cm or 7.48in

For self calculation: The ROKS Soyang is roughly 190m or 623ft long.

The model is intended to be used with little supports as possible, yet some are recommended below the cranes. Be carefull when removing the support structures, as the masts and especially the lines are quite fragile. I wouldnt put additional supports within the masts themselves, since they are nearly impossible to remove. I recommend using a resin printer for this. Up and Downsclaling might be possible, yet I dont know to what extend.

If you face issues with the model, have questions or want to propose some changes, please reach out to me, I am always happy to help. I am also open for suggetions for new ships which I havent done yet, as I am looking to expand my catalogue of ships.
