DESCRIPTION

This is the ultimate large-scale 3D printable model of the legendary Project 941 Akula (NATO: Typhoon) – the largest submarine class ever built by the Soviet/Russian Navy. Printed at 1:174 scale, the real Typhoon configuration measures an impressive 1 meter (1000 mm) long, while the included extended hull components allow you to build the famous fictional Red October from Tom Clancy's novel and the 1990 Sean Connery film at a massive 1.2 meters (1:144 scale). Every external feature has been faithfully reproduced, including the distinctive double-hull arrangement, massive sail, characteristic bow missile compartment with 20 launch tubes, sonar domes, limber holes, twin propellers, and the subtle magnetohydrodynamic (caterpillar) drive outlets unique to the movie version. The kit also includes two complete sets of missile silo hatches—standard closed covers and the iconic ringed/breached versions—allowing you to customize all 20 silos to your preferred appearance.

This latest edition has been completely remastered from the ground up. Every STL has been regenerated at dramatically higher resolution, increasing the geometric detail by approximately 20 times compared to the original release. The download has grown from roughly 28 MB to well over 500 MB, preserving fine curves, crisp edges, and subtle hull details that were previously impossible to represent. The result is an exceptionally smooth model that requires far less surface finishing after printing and fully takes advantage of modern high-resolution FDM and resin printers. Whether displayed as a museum-quality static model or converted into an advanced RC project, this is our most accurate and highest-quality Typhoon/Red October model to date.

3D printing settingsThe hull sections are supplied as lightweight hollow shells, carefully engineered for reliable printing on standard 220 × 220 mm (or larger) FDM printers while remaining equally suitable for high-resolution resin printing of smaller components. Recommended settings are PLA or PETG, a 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.15–0.20 mm layer height, 20–30% infill, 3–4 perimeters, and 4–6 top and bottom layers. Most components print support-free when oriented as supplied.

The kit contains over 80 optimized STL files, now rebuilt using ultra-high-resolution meshes for significantly smoother surfaces and sharper details than the previous generation. Assembly is straightforward using CA glue or epoxy, and detailed exploded-view renderings are included to clearly illustrate the construction sequence. The interior is intentionally left empty, providing complete freedom for experienced builders to design their own ballast system, propulsion, electronics, waterproofing, and internal structure. Whether your goal is an exceptionally detailed display model or a fully operational RC submarine, this remastered release provides the highest fidelity and best printing experience we have ever offered.
