DESCRIPTION

This Stabilization Vial was originally designed as a sealed laboratory-style storage vessel featuring a self-sealing extraction port and a highly configurable modular design. Whether you're building a science-themed display piece, a workshop prop, a laboratory-inspired organizer, or simply want a unique desktop conversation starter, this vial brings a professional research-lab aesthetic to any workspace.

The design features a self-sealing silicone extraction gasket, syringe access through a sealed port, and enough Crash Makerspace styling to look right at home in a mad scientist's laboratory. It is the same style of vial featured in several Crash Makerspace projects and videos.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

  • x1 28 mm Silicone Gasket
  • x3 M3 Steel Bushings (6 mm × 6 mm)
  • x3 M3 Heat Inserts (5 mm)
  • x3 M3 × 25 mm Socket Head Bolts
  • x1 Flange Bearing (8 × 14 × 4 mm)
  • x1 Optional Label or Decal

ASSEMBLY

Assembly is straightforward. The silicone gasket sits on top of the test tube while the lip of the test tube is captured between the upper and lower printed components.

I printed these parts using resin for the smoothest finish and painted the recessed details red to complement the steel bushings and hardware.

Using a sharp blade, cut a small slit approximately 1/8" deep into the center of the silicone gasket to create the self-sealing extraction port. Lightly sand the flange bearing if necessary and secure it into the upper recess using a suitable adhesive.

The heat inserts are used as decorative threaded spacers and are not intended to be heat-set into the print. Tighten the assembly until the gasket is evenly compressed and forms a complete seal.

CUSTOMIZATION

The design can easily be scaled for different test tube sizes. Simply adjust the model scale in your slicer and update the gasket, hardware, and bearing dimensions to match.

Custom labels can be added to create anything from laboratory sample containers to futuristic prop displays, making the vial ideal for workshops, makerspaces, offices, classrooms, and science-themed displays.
