Obverse (right side): The profile of Marianne, the national personification of the French Republic, facing left with flowing hair. The inscription REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE (French Republic) curves around the edge. The artist's name LAGRIFFOUL appears beneath the portrait.Reverse (left side): The denomination 20 CENTIMES with the date 1974 below it, surrounded by the French national motto LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity) around the upper edge. The design is complemented by decorative wheat or laurel sprigs.The coin is made of aluminum-bronze, giving it its distinctive golden color.The centime was a subdivision of the French franc (100 centimes = 1 franc) before France adopted the euro in 2002.

This coin was part of France's currency during the Fifth Republic period. The 20 centimes denomination featured this Marianne design from 1962 until the franc was replaced by the euro.
