Historical description of the coin: This is a Thai 5 baht coin from 1980 (2523 in the Thai Buddhist Era calendar).The obverse (left side) features the Garuda, which is Thailand's national emblem - a mythical bird-like creature. The Thai text indicates the country name ประเทศไทย (Thailand) and the denomination ๕ บาท (5 baht), along with the date พ.ศ. ๒๕๒๓ (Buddhist Era 2523, equivalent to 1980 CE).The reverse (right side) displays a profile portrait of King Rama IX (Bhumibol Adulyadej) wearing glasses. The Thai inscription around the edge shows his official title.The coin appears to be made of a copper-nickel alloy, giving it its bronze-like appearance. The 5 baht was a common circulation coin in Thailand during this period. King Rama IX was Thailand's longest-reigning monarch, having served from 1946 until his death in 2016.
