Welcome to the CGTrader videogame news feature, where we take a look at some of the most pertinent (to modelers) game news of the week!

Titanfall 2/Battlefield 1 to release this year

Electronic Arts released their report to the investors and it shows that Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2 will be released in Q3 2016. The reveal of Battlefied 1 has already announced the release date of October 21, so Titanfall 2 is supposed to drop in somewhere close. Apparently EA isn‘t troubled by the close proximity of their game releases, probably because they scratch different itches. Battlefield 1 will be a mass multiplayer WWI shooter, with (hopefully) matches of up to 64 players with infantry, tanks, ships and planes. Titanfall 2 will probably follow in the series‘ footsteps and be a much tighter, faster close range twitch shooter in a sci-fi environment, a direct competitor to Call of Duty. Battlefield 1 will likely run on a new iteration of Frostbyte engine – and while the trailer has shown spectacular in-engine footage, it‘s still unclear how it will look in-game.

Dark Souls 3 Limbo Mod

Modders are at it again. This time, they took From Software‘s Dark Souls 3 and modded it to look like indie sidescroller Limbo. Game‘s grays and browns were replaced with, well, black and grays, mimicking the look of the indie. While it probably causes some confusion in certain in game situations, it really shows of the talent of unpaid game and graphics artists. Download the mod here!

Silent Hill recreated in UE4

James Brady, an artist from the team that made Alien Isolation, has reimagined a bit of Silent Hill in Unreal Engine 4. The freely accessible engine that‘s doing a lot to make game development more democratic is bound to appear in many games, but here we have a short movie that takes us through the school location for the first game in this Japanese horror game series. Silent Hill would look even creepier if it was produced today! So this will serve either as inspiration to indie horror producers or an incentive for an HD remake of the game.

Bloodborne's Hunter's Dream done in UE4

Speaking of recreations, artist Simon Barle wanted to tackle a much newer game. This time, it was Bloodborne that got the UE4 treatment. To be specific, the game hub of Hunter‘s Dream was recreated in next (maybe current) gen graphics, showing once more that PC is the place to be. The artist only recreated the outside of this location (and the doll is nowhere to be seen), but it looks lovely and atmospheric. Way better than what we saw in the game itself!

Gigantic, the MOBA with giant animals

Gigangtic is MOBA with a twist – and that twist comes in the form of a kaiju-sized critter that acts like your base. Or acts instead of your base, going out into the field and battling both the other team and their giant owl/dragon/whatever. The game was first announced two years ago, and the studio faced difficulties this year, but now, with investment from Perfect World, they have the means to release an awesome trailer. And we can marvel at those beautiful cell-shaded graphics. I wonder how low-poly they are!
