3D Model Market Trends 2026: Growth Raised the Bar
News

Our new market report is out, and it tells a story we are proud to publish.
“3D Model Market Trends 2026: Growth Raised the Bar” draws on a full year of CGTrader marketplace and buyer survey data, from June 2025 to May 2026, to answer the questions the whole industry has been arguing about.
Is the market growing? Is AI taking over? Does quality still pay?
Short answers: yes, no, and more than ever. This was the year buyers voted, with their money, for exactly the kind of work our designers do best.
In a year when supply surged, prices adjusted, and AI content flooded in, the thing that held its value was well-made, human-crafted 3D. To every designer on the marketplace: this report is a portrait of your work holding up under pressure. Thank you for raising the bar.
The gap between supply and demand is the report's central tension. Demand grew 5.1% over the year. Supply grew 18.5%, roughly 3.6 times faster, and average prices fell 9.7% as a result.
Buyers got more choice at better prices. Sellers got a more crowded shelf, and volume alone stopped being a strategy. If this year felt harder despite the growth, you were reading the market correctly. The winners competed on something copies cannot match.

Top-rated models held 65.4% of all CG revenue, essentially unchanged through the entire correction, while the price drop fell hardest on the lowest-rated work. Buyers said it in plain words too: in our survey, quality ranked as the number one reason for choosing a marketplace, above price.
This is why production teams treat CGTrader as a destination rather than a search stop. The best-made models are where the value concentrates, and the marketplace carries a deep bench of them.
For designers, the takeaway is blunt and encouraging at once: raising a model from average to excellent multiplies revenue. Invest in quality, and price to reflect it. If you sell here, it is worth reviewing your store with that in mind. And if you are on the buying side, the best-made models are exactly what a subscription like CGTrader Essentials is built to help you reach.

AI-made models now make up roughly 1 in 6 uploads on the marketplace. They account for about 1 in 90 dollars of revenue.
Buyers refusing to pay for AI-generated models is saying something bigger than no thanks. It is a signal of how far they trust AI generation itself, and in our survey the most common experience among those who tried it was simple: the output is not good enough.
In 3D printing, where a file either prints or fails, the caution is strongest of all. None of this means AI has no place in 3D. The data shows where it sits right now: a tool that can raise a skilled designer's output, not a substitute for the skill. The market spent a year pricing that difference, and human-made work won.

Roughly two-thirds of CG categories grew in unit demand this year, which shows that the market is not collapsing into a few hot niches. The highest revenue per model sits in hard-surface work like vehicles, aircraft, and industrial models, where precision is difficult, and quality is hard to fake. The squeeze concentrates in easy-to-flood commodity categories instead.
The message from the data: do not chase a hot category. Model what you know, and make it undeniable.
Demand for USD and USDZ grew more than 40% against the market baseline, with Unreal Engine and glTF formats close behind, while legacy render-only formats went flat to declining. Blender, the most-bought format overall, grew at twice the market rate.
The buyer base itself is shifting toward AR, gaming, and real-time production, and designers shipping engine-ready formats and PBR are meeting those buyers where they work. PBR models are about 40% more likely to ever sell than non-PBR ones. Craft details pay.

3D printing deserves its own spotlight, because every trend above shows up stronger here.
Print demand grew at double the pace of CG, and nine of ten print categories gained, with functional and personal-use printing leading the way. Quality concentrates even harder in print than in CG, and print buyers rank print-ready quality and technical reliability above price.
For our 3D print designers, the report's message is the strongest of all: demand is almost everywhere, and verified, print-tested human work is a durable differentiator.

The full report goes deeper than any highlight reel can: the complete quality-to-earnings picture, format and category breakdowns, PBR conversion data, and a dedicated 3D printing section, all available for free. Download the full report.
Whether you sell, buy, or build with 3D, this is the clearest picture of the market right now, and it exists because of the designers who make this marketplace what it is.
