HISTORICAL NOTE: The Tacuarí Steam was a corvette of the Paraguayan Navy that served in the Triple Alliance War (1864-1870), acting as the flagship of that nation's fleet. Built in 1852 at the yards of engineers John and Alfred Blyth of the West India Dock in Limehouse, England, in 1854 it was acquired by the Paraguayan government.

On November 12, 1864, the Tacuarí (commanded by Remigio Cabral) seized the Brazilian ship Marquês de Olinda with his crew, cargo and the new President of the province of Mato Grosso, Frederico Carneiro de Campos, starting the Paraguay War (Triple Alliance War). It was the flagship of the Paraguayan fleet at the Battle of Riachuelo on June 11, 1865.
