His feast day in the Orthodox Church is May 3.The venerable Irodion Ionescu was born in Bucharest in 1821, receiving the baptismal name Ioan. At the age of 20, feeling the call to monastic life, he entered as a layman at the Cernica Monastery, where Saint Calinic was the abbot at the time. He was tonsured into monasticism in 1846, receiving the name Irodion.
