DESCRIPTION

he Ohio class is one of the largest and most recognizable submarine classes ever built by the U.S. Navy. Originally developed as nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs), the class comprised 18 boats, commissioned between 1981 and 1997. The first four—USS Ohio (SSBN-726), USS Michigan (SSBN-727), USS Florida (SSBN-728), and USS Georgia (SSBN-729)—were later converted into guided-missile submarines (SSGNs), while the remaining fourteen continued as SSBNs: USS Henry M. Jackson, Alabama, Alaska, Nevada, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Maryland, Nebraska, Rhode Island, Maine, Wyoming, and Louisiana. At approximately 560 ft (170.7 m) long, these submarines were the largest ever built by the U.S. Navy and were designed around long-duration submerged operations and the Trident missile system.

the model is 100cms long. So the scale is 1:170a set of missiles is also included in the pack.

3D printing settingsThis 3D printable Ohio-class submarine model captures the distinctive proportions and external character of this remarkable submarine family and provides an excellent subject for a large-scale display or RC submarine project. The model can also serve as a basis for representing other Ohio-class boats through different hull numbers, names and markings, making it relevant to builders interested in USS Ohio, USS Michigan, USS Florida, USS Georgia, Trident submarines, SSBNs, SSGNs and U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. The four SSGN conversions are particularly interesting alternatives, as Ohio, Michigan, Florida and Georgia were extensively modified to carry conventional cruise missiles and support special operations. With their large hull volume, distinctive missile-compartment proportions and characteristic sail, Ohio-class submarines make impressive 3D-printed models and offer plenty of space for builders who want to develop the model further for RC propulsion, ballast, batteries, electronics and other internal equipment.

This file pack is 27+mb in size, includes the model in 58 separate STL files. Model length is 1meter, the interior is empty for various projects. There are multiple types of propellers for you to select according to your project.

The hull is designed to assemble reliably and strongly, even at over one meter in length. Between the individual hull pieces, the joints are flat butt-joint surfaces to simplify 3D printing and avoid complex geometry that could cause print failure. However, along the horizontal sides of each hull segment, the design includes overlapping joints. When the upper and lower hulls are assembled separately, these overlapping sections allow the top and bottom halves to interlock securely when glued together, providing excellent structural strength.

Some builders also reinforce the assembly using fiberglass fabric strips or rods, though this is optional. The hull walls are approximately 6 mm thick, and even thicker around the missile silo area, which gives you plenty of bonding surface and room to add reinforcing pins if desired.

If interior access is needed, 2 or 3 top-hull pieces can be left unglued and used as removable access lids. Many builders choose this option when adding lighting, RC conversions.
