The Lun-class Ekranoplan (Project 903) remains one of the most remarkable examples of Soviet ground-effect engineering ever built. Designed as a missile-carrying maritime strike platform, its unique combination of aircraft and naval architecture has made it an enduring icon among aviation and naval enthusiasts alike. This RC-ready model faithfully captures the distinctive appearance of the original vessel while incorporating numerous practical improvements for builders. Measuring 990 mm in length, 600 mm in wingspan, and 270 mm in height, the updated design is approximately 25% lighter than previous versions, improving handling and reducing overall weight. The enlarged engine nacelles are designed to accommodate powerful 28-35 mm EDF units, allowing builders to pursue high-thrust configurations while maintaining the characteristic appearance of the prototype. Every effort has been made to balance scale fidelity, ease of construction, and RC adaptability, resulting in an impressive display piece that can also serve as the basis for an ambitious radio-controlled project.
3D printing settingsThe model is supplied as high-resolution, pre-split STL files optimized for straightforward 3D printing and assembly. Internal provisions are included for EDF units, ESCs, batteries, servos, and control linkages, with a recommended setup utilizing eight 35 mm EDFs, two mini servos for the rudder and elevators, and one standard servo for the flaperons. Reference models of the EDF units used during development are included and should be printed as assembly mockups to verify clearances and installation geometry before purchasing motors and electronics. Alignment features throughout the structure help simplify assembly and improve accuracy. While this version has been lightened and prepared with RC operation in mind, it has not been flight-tested and no guarantee of flight performance is provided. Flight capability depends entirely on the builder's choice of motors, electronics, weight management, construction quality, and piloting decisions. With sufficient power almost anything can become airborne, but successful operation of this model as a ground-effect or flying vehicle remains solely the responsibility of the builder.However, it is guaranteed to float and storm any pond with its imposing presence.
