The Elegoo Mars has a buit in carbon filter that would be a nightmare to change if the filters were avaliable to buy as you would have to dismantle the machine to get to the insides, i have made this box to be able to use Aquarium FIlter activated charcoal pellets and also make it easy to change, the other function it provides is to prevent any leaked resin from going down the filter holes at the back of the vat. oh.. i forgot to mention that i used 75% Elegoo ABS like and 25% Sirayatech tenatious for a bit more flexability
This comes in 3 pieces:
- The base which I epoxy glued into place (while the vat is in place) to ensure a seal against any spillages, ithought epoxy would have a stronger bond than silicone calk.
- The box which i then had to line with something with finer mesh holes as the Carbon pellets were actually small chips ( my mistake when ordering), I used a plastic mesh i had in my craft box for years.
- The lid which has a recessed Elegoo logo, I filled this with black resin and used a UV torch to cure then sandes flat. The plastic mesh maynot be needed depending on the size of your carbon pellets, but i used a Plastic Canvas that can be bought from craft shops or Amazon for embroidery i believe https://www.amazon.co.uk/Darice-Plastic-Canvas-White-21-08/dp/B0042LNU32/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&keywords=plastic+craft+mesh&link_code=qs&qid=1610909987&sourceid=Mozilla-search&sr=8-7&tag=firefox-uk-21
The fitting lid and base were a snug fit to the box which required a little sanding unless you want to try and scale the box to 98% or 99% as it might save you the trouble of sanding, i also sanded the whole box and finished with some fine scotchbrite pads.
