DESCRIPTION

This mount was originally designed for the Meta/Oculus Quest 2, but it also works as a general-purpose adjustable clamp mount capable of holding a wide range of objects. The design functions like a vise with adjustable arms, allowing you to securely clamp and position devices in many orientations. Because of the wide clamping range, it can hold both relatively large devices (such as VR headsets) and much smaller items.

Possible uses include mounting:VR headsetsPhonesSmall tabletsCamerasControllersTools or other small equipment

Note: This mount is not designed to support heavy devices such as laptops, desktop towers, or monitors.

Print Material Recommendations:For best results, print the parts using PETG or another stiff, heat-resistant filament.PLA can work, but it may slowly deform over time due to heat exposure from the headset. To address this, the design includes the option to add a reinforcement plate.A 1–3 mm aluminum plate can be installed between the arm subassembly and the mount subassembly in the area near the Quest 2 ventilation outlet. Heat from the headset can cause polymer sagging in this region during long sessions.

Possible solutions if sagging occurs:Install a 1–3 mm aluminum reinforcement plateUse PETG or another heat-resistant materialPrint a thicker or stronger support insertIn many cases, PETG alone may be sufficient, so you can test the mount first and reinforce it if needed.

Important Print Note (Captive Nut)The knob part requires a print pause during printing. At a certain layer height, you will need to pause the print and insert a captive nut into the internal cavity. Once the nut is in place, resume the print so the printer can seal the nut inside the part. This allows the knob to function as a threaded tightening mechanism.

Clamp Mechanism:The clamp assembly uses a threaded rod inserted through the center hole after assembly. By tightening the rod, the arms move inward and clamp onto the object being mounted. This system allows the clamp to adapt to many different object sizes, giving it a wide range of applications.

Required Hardware

To assemble the mount you will need:M5 screws or M5 threaded rodM3 screwsMatching M3 and M5 nutsMatching washersScrews can be cut to size if necessary. Many wire strippers include screw-cutting holes that work well for trimming bolts cleanly.

Alternative Fastener Option:The M5 screws can be replaced with a length of M5 threaded rod cut to size.If using threaded rod, you may glue a nut to one end to create a makeshift bolt head. This is not the most elegant solution, but it works and may be convenient depending on what hardware you have available.
