The 1P87 designation refers to a Russian-made combat optic originally developed as part of the Ratnik infantry gear system. The Valday PK-122 name it denotes the upgraded version of this sight used on small arms. The Valday PK‑122 is a 1× aiming optic designed to engage targets at short to medium distances. Instead of simple reflex designs, the PK-122 uses an improved mirror-based optical system that gives a clearer and more refined sight picture compared with earlier Russian collimators. With a wide field of view, it allows both-eyes-open shooting for better situational awareness. The sight projects a 2 MOA red dot reticle with multiple illumination levels that can be used with night-vision gear (several brightness levels are tailored for NV use). Mounting is usually done on Picatinny or Russian side rails, and the optic is compatible with standard infantry rifles like AK-series platforms when paired with the correct mounts. Compared with its predecessor the PK-120, the PK-122 introduces updates such as a more refined optical path and a more robust housing design. Genuine service details within the Russian Armed Forces aren’t widely publicised, but the PK-122 is recognised in tactical communities as the next iteration of the 1P87 family, intended to offer improved performance over earlier models in the Russian tactical optics lineup.
