This is the instruction booklet to build a working radio controlled 3D model of the Type 21 Royal Navy Frigate HMS Amazon or her 7 sisterships at 1/72nd scale.
The Type 21 frigates were the first totally gas turbined frigates of the Royal Navy, built through the 1970's and used until the 1990's before being sold to the Pakistan Navy and used by them until very recently.
The ships could do a burst of speed of 37 knots though ordinary cruising speed was a speedy 18.
They fought with distinction in the Falklands War. Two of the class were lost to enemy action.
The model can make any of the class, with the weaponry and fittings used throughout its service in the Royal Navy.
The illustrated instruction booklet will show you what is involved in building the model as well as giving details of the extra mechanical parts required to make the working model. Though some fittings are moulded into the prints much has to be constructed from the detailed stl files provided. It is a complex kit of some 200 parts which when complete makes an attractive and exciting model for display or sailing.
The parts are designed for a filament printer with a 220mm cubed bed. I used a Creality K1 Max printer to print all parts, though some parts might show better detail using a resin printer.
The whole model has been successully printed at 1/72nd scale but is designed so that it can be printed at up to half that size. However it has not yet been tested at smaller scales and a working model may be more difficulty too much smaller.
As always with my models I am very ready to respond to any queries about construction and am ready to design components for different size tubing for rudders and shafts. etc.
