When selling on cg trader do artists care more about selling products or getting a high percentage cut?

Discussion started by miaomiao3d

Ever since I joined cg trader I have always asked myself what matters more to artists on here. Is it more important to make lots of money selling models or getting a higher cut from each sale?

Both. Moving customers from low paying sites like TS to CGT.

I think it is funny we have a reversed opinion of the pricing sales at TS and CGTrader. I generally sell more high cost models on TS and lower paying models on CGTrader. I don't think it is really about price with the customers though, I think it is more about the model designed purpose.

I have been in the 3d modeling business both as a college level instructor, modeler and seller of models for more than 18 years now and I have learned a few things. I have built over 13500 3d models all for sale or for client special orders. When I build 3d models I like the idea of making a bit more per model as that will allow me to spend more time on each model while still making a profit. However the way it really works is competition on a grand scale means we each have to win the customer over with a combination of higher quality, lower prices and appealing renderings to attract that customer. Price becomes more and more of an issue with thousands of artist now in the business and more joining every day. This is generally good for the customer and more and more difficult for the modeler. You have stumbled upon the bottom line question every one in the business has to answer for themselves. Do I continue to build models, quit, price high, price low.
