Serpenticone Shell Smooth Surface

Serpenticone Shell Smooth Surface 3D print model

Description

Name of the model: Serpenticone Conch Smooth Triangles: 1387578 Vertices: 693790 Information: This model emulates a serpenticonic conch with a smooth shell surface (ribs and nodes). According to Westermann (1996) Serpenticonic shells are evolute, with much of the umbilicus exposed. This has been shown to generate excessive drag against propulsion (Jacobs 1992). The shell form is overall fairly compressed, even if the aperture itself is not compressed. The venter does not produce as much drag, and at larger sizes, less energy would be required for propulsion because turbulent flow would de-emphasize friction drag along the umbilicus (Jacobs 1992).
