Serpenticone Shell Smooth Surface

Serpenticone Shell Smooth Surface 3D print model

Description

Name of the model: Serpenticone Conch SmoothTriangles: 1387578Vertices: 693790Information: This model emulates a serpenticonic conch with a smooth shell surface (ribs andnodes). According to Westermann (1996) Serpenticonic shells are evolute, with much of theumbilicus exposed. This has been shown to generate excessive drag against propulsion (Jacobs1992). The shell form is overall fairly compressed, even if the aperture itself is not compressed. The venter does not produce as much drag, and at larger sizes, less energy would be required forpropulsion because turbulent flow would de-emphasize friction drag along the umbilicus (Jacobs1992).
