Field Marshal Wilhelm Keitel served as the Chief of the Armed Forces High Command (Oberkommando der Wehrmacht) throughout World War II.

The July Plot:Keitel was present at the Wolf's Lair field headquarters when a bomb planted by Claus von Stauffenberg went off on July 20, 1944.

He survived uninjured and actively helped secure control, later sitting on the military court of honour that expelled accused conspirators so they could face execution by civilian courts.

Widely nicknamed a yes-man, Keitel held little independent tactical power in 1944, functioning instead as an administrative conduit.

After Germany's defeat, the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg convicted Keitel of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and planning a war of aggression.

He was sentenced to death and hanged on October 16, 1946
