Historical Note: Brazil was a Brazilian armored corvette built in France for the Imperial Navy of Brazil in the mid-1860s. Set up as a central battery, it served during the War of the Triple Alliance between Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, between 1864 and 1870, against the Paraguay. It was built in the French shipyard Société Nouvelle de Forges et Chantiers de la Mediterranée, in the town of La Seyne in 1864.

On March 23, 1866, Brazil succeeded in pushing back the Paraguayan steam Gualeguai. On March 26, he participated in the bombing of the Itapiru Fortress. On April 16, he helped protect the Allied troops during the landing at Passo da Pátria. On May 20, he towed the Magé gunboat, which was stranded on the bank of Palmas, under fire from enemy batteries. Between 4 and 22 September, he participated in the bombing of Curupaiti. On April 10, 1868, he participated in the bombing of Humaita. Between July 30 and August 1, he took part in the combats of Lago Vera. On August 16, he forced Timbo's passage. On November 26, he forced the Passo de Angostura. After the war ended, Brazil continued to be part of the fleet until it was discharged in 1879.
